ANOINTING OILS - FOR PRAYER, SANCTIFICATION AND CONSECRATION

Jam 5:14 Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of YHWH:
Jam 5:15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the YHWH shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

To Anoint : To apply oil onto someone. Throughout history, when people wanted to heal a wound, they poured or daubed oil onto it. Oil is a symbol of YHWH's healing powers, and anointment is a sign of trust that YHWH heals. It is still a practice among some churches to anoint the sick with oil, as found in James 5:14-15. Oil is also a symbol of dedication, consecration and submission to YHWH, and anointment is a ceremonial outward sign of marking the anointed person as being chosen or set aside to have special authority by YHWH. The word "Mashiyach" or "Messiah" refers to Yahushua the Anointed One who was chosen to make the ultimate rescue of YHWH's people; the Greek word for "The Anointed One" is "Christos". The Christian holds that "The Anointed One" is Yahushua (Jesus) of Nazareth.

There is also a specialized use of the term " anointing" by Pentecostal and Charismatic believers, an extension of the ceremonial use's meaning. When someone is said to be "anointed", it means that the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) pours onto them like oil - that is, that person has been given special power by the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) to work with the Spirit in accomplishing the task at hand. This is known as "unction by the Spirit". The anointed person(s) in their activity is then said to be operating '"in the Spirit" and/or "outside of themselves".

Consecrate: to dedicate something or somebody to a specific purpose.

Men, as the priest of your homes you should anoint with oil; your wives and children, to consecrate them to YHWH. Anoint and bless them, pray over them for protection from the god of this earth, and his ways. HaShatan (Satan) is the god of this earth, and his workers of iniquity are ever at the ready, to corrupt your family with deception and various other spirits, in order to keep you from the "straight and narrow path".

Expensive Anointing Oils vs. Plain Olive Oil.

Must a person have fine smelling, or specifically blended anointing oils? No, of course not! Any olive oil from the shelf will do. All of the olive oil in existence belongs to YHWH. He is the Mastermind Creator of it all and every drop of it is as good by itself as it is with a pretty aroma blended into it. The oil is just a point of obedience. The power of life and death is within the tongue. Pray over that oil and bless it in love. Brothers and Sisters, it isn't about the oil. It's about the Spirit abiding within your heart. This is the core of your being.

All that said, since you are here reading this, you may be like many of us and just really enjoy those wonderful aromas. Great! As long as it is not any financial strain, we may choose to buy or make all the fine smelling Anointing Oils our heart desires. If you do choose to buy, we would love to be the people you choose to get yours from.

Anointing someone can open a little doorway for Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) to minister to that person. It can help to change a persons "frame of mind" and settle them into a quiet place. Anointing the members of a congregation can and will remind some that they are consecrated to the purposes of the Creator of all things.

I personally feel that anything that helps me to remember the previous sentence is a good thing. It helps me to remember that as a part of the Kingdom of YHWH (GOD), I am supposed to do all things from a heart of Love. This is who I want to be.

For me, being anointed has also precipitated a powerful move of Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) with healing, both spiritual and physical, and my first "honest to goodness" undeniable experience with being overcome with Ruach HaKodesh. It was a turning point in my life. Before that happened, I was a believer in Mashiyach (Messiah) but, I did not really understand just how good it could be. Of course, the things I did (prayer, confession, repentance) leading up to the anointing part of this experience were, in my mind, pre-requisite for the experience I had at Shavuot (Pentecost) 2004. The feeling I got from the anointing was the thing that broke down my resistance to tears coming from my eyes or falling on the ground and possibly looking foolish in front of other people. Right up to the time the oil was placed upon me, I was still a little stiff and self-conscious about how I would look to other people. I thought about how anointing was a common practice in the Scripture records and why it was used. At that point, I was able to give in; to open my heart as a child and just accept it and be open to all things that YHWH was going to do on that day. I am so glad I did!

To anoint or be anointed is a reminder for us in this physical realm of being set apart for YHWH and his purposes and ways. It is a physical marker for the mind, to call to remembrance that we are called to be a set apart people, when we accept Yahushua and His shed blood to be atonement for our sins. We then become part of the Kingdom of YHWH. YHWH does not change to please us. We change to please HIM. It is all about HIM.
